Our class used newspapers recently to search out letters that we have studied as well as our sight words. Take time with your child to look at the environment around you for familiar letters, numbers and words. We also used sale papers to find our numbers 1-10 in another lesson. I hope you enjoy our pictures.

Kindergarten 2011-2012
Welcome to my first blog of the new school year. It has taken some time for us to settle into a routine this year since our class is such a big one! We have eighty-seven kindergarten students total and twenty-one students are in our class. I had to track down an extra table so that we were not so crowded. This first six weeks has been spent counting to thirty, learning a letter a day, working on patterns as well as story comprehension. It's been fast and furious. I will send home the first report card this Thursday. Please sign and return it as soon as possible.
Last week we gave a benchmark test for reading and math to all kindergarten students. This data is going into a system to pinpoint areas of strengths and weaknesses. This week we are testing again! All kindergarten students in the state of Texas take the TPRI (Texas Primary Reading Inventory). This week we will take this test as well as the mClass Math Benchmark. Both of these tests have to be given individually to each student. We will be testing most of the week.
Last week we made a shoo fly quilt as part of a unit we have been doing on patterns. Here are some pictures to show what we have learned. Hope you enjoy them!
